 For over twenty five years OpenVMS has been a mainstay in environments that require fail safe computing. HP has maintained a commitment to continuously improve and evolve OpenVMS. Ten years ago, one such evolution was the transition from the VAX to AlphaServer platform. HP is now in the process of porting OpenVMS to the cost effective, industry standard HP Integrity server family, based on Intel's Itanium® 2 architecture. The first production-quality release of OpenVMS for the Integrity server family is scheduled for the second half of 2004. With this transition completed, OpenVMS customers have a choice of staying with the AlphaServer platform for many more years or moving to the industry-standard Itanium® platform. To ensure that incorporating HP Integrity servers into an OpenVMS environment is as seamless as possible, mixed architecture clusters of AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers is fully supported by HP.
HP is working closely with leading software vendors such as Oracle, BEA, BMC Software and Computer Associates to fully port OpenVMS environments and application portfolios to Itanium-based enterprise systems. The vast majority of OpenVMS ISV partners have already committed to port their applications to OpenVMS on the Integrity server platform.
